WCP 8.19.10 Area talents competed at The Gap on S. Lindell Street on Saturday for Soybean Idol 2010. Soybean Idol is held in conjuction with the Tennessee Soybean Festival, which is set for Sept. 4-12. Performers advancing to the semi-finals after Saturday’s competition include (from left) Mary Catherine Maxey of Martin, Lucas Maxey of Martin, Emily Helton of Paris and Melissa Jackson of South Fulton. The winner of this year’s Soybean Idol will receive $1,000 and the opportunity to perform as an opening act for John Michael Montgomery on the downtown stage on Saturday, Sept. 11. The third round of auditions will be Saturday, Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. at Virginia Weldon Park in downtown Martin.
