Murray St. advances
by beating Stanford

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — B.J. Jenkins scored 15 points, including two free throws in the final 25 seconds, as Murray State held on to beat Stanford 55-52 Thursday night in the first round of the 76 Classic.
MSU (3-1) led 29-18 at halftime and scored 18 points off 18 turnovers by the Cardinal (3-1).
Dwight Powell led Stanford with a career-high 16 points and scored 12 of Stanford’s 18 points in the first half. Josh Owens finished with 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out with 5:28 left.
Isaiah Canaan, who scored eight points, made two free throws with 13.8 seconds left to put the Racers ahead 53-49.
Stanford’s leading scorer, Jeremy Green, scored all nine of his points on three 3-pointers in the final minute.
Murray State, which led by as many as 14 points in the first half, made 18-of-23 free throws.
Grizzlies’ sub, female
arrested after fight

MEMPHIS (AP) — Police say Hamed Haddadi of the Memphis Grizzlies and his girlfriend have been charged with assault following an altercation between the two.
The Commercial Appeal reports the incident occurred Thursday at a downtown apartment building.
Haddadi, a backup center from Iran, and girlfriend Goolnaz “Asal” Karbalaeinematmoeeney were taken to a local hospital for various scratches and bruises.
Police said a verbal altercation apparently escalated to a fight.

UK ‘out for blood’
in donor fight vs. Vols

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky is taking back its Big Blue Crush trophy for the first time in eight years.
For the first time since 2002, Kentucky has won the blood donation battle against Tennessee, winning with 3,503 donors to Tennessee’s 2,954 donors.
A news release from UK says that total breaks Kentucky’s previous record of 3,482 donors in 1999.
The trophy presentation for the 23rd annual Big Blue Crush will be conducted during the Kentucky-Tennessee football game Saturday in Knoxville.
Blood collected during Big Blue Crush is used for thousands of Kentuckians or Tennesseans who require tranfusions during the holidays.
