To The Editor:
Empathy can only be given if you are a “like” victim. I have learned empathy for the victims of your speed trap. Now, I can better relate when I hear the comments of your victims.
I live between Trimble and Newbern. A common question as we are leaving our house for shopping or entertainment is “Dyersburg or Union City?” That question will not be asked anymore. Not only do I feel like a careless person who has allowed themselves to be bitten by a snake, it is also five miles closer to Dyersburg, so there!
I spent about $10,000 or $11,000 in Union City last year. That won’t happen again. I brought a class reunion to Union City in 2009. That won’t happen again either. That remodeling job I’m about to start, the material will not be bought in Union City.
I was in a hurry when your snake bit. If you had asked me what the speed limit was where I was driving, I would have said 45. It is 45 for the traffic on the other side of the road.
I was on my way to the civic center to give gratitude to the recently returned National Guard from their deployment. I had been asked to get there a little early. I wasn’t late, but did not have any time to spare.
So, in the future, when there is a choice, and there nearly always is, our money will be spent in Dyersburg/Dyer County and NOT in Union City/Obion County.
