Geoffrey Ping of Union City plans to graduate May 14 from Murray (Ky.) State University with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering technology.
He is the son of Benny and Teresa Ping.
In addition, Ping was recently named to the Dean’s List for scholastic achievements during the spring semester at MSU. Students there must have a grade point average ranging from 3.5 to a perfect 4.0 to be eligible for Dean’s List status.

Several local students were honored at the University of Tennessee at Martin’s recent 47th annual Honors Day.
They included:
• Derrick T. Williams of Union City, Outstanding Nursing Student Award.
• Allison T. Jones of South Fulton, Outstanding Upper Division Accounting, Finance, Economics and Political Science Student Award.
• Andrew H. Moore of South Fulton, Outstanding Music Student Award and the Harry Neal Memorial Award. The Harry Neal Memorial Award is given to recognize an outstanding piano major in the UT Martin Department of Music, with the recipient chosen by the piano faculty and the department chair on the basis of performance growth and grade received during the year.
• William Philip Wesner of Union City, Outstanding Astronomy/Physics Student Award.
• Johnathon B. Wright of Union City, Outstanding Sophomore Engineering Award, presented to a sophomore engineering student with at least 45 semester hours who has demonstrated scholarship and leadership ability, participated in extracurricular activities and shown professional achievement.
• Kassie L. Hughes of South Fulton, the William T. McCutchen Geology Award. This is an award of up to $300. Eligible students must have sophomore standing, be a declared geoscience major with a concentration in geology and submit an application explaining why the applicant has chosen geology as a career. Funding for the award comes from faculty and alumni and is named in honor of professor William T. McCutchen, the first geology faculty member at the university.
• Michael Yandell of Union City, the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity Award. The award of $300 is given to an outstanding male music major. It is based on scholastic ability, participation in music activities and leadership. The recipient is chosen by the members of the fraternity and the faculty advisor.

Janay Roberson of Obion recently graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor of arts degree in communication.
Over 500 students were in the graduating class.
Ms. Roberson was also named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at UT Chattanooga, where students named to the Dean’s List must have a 3.2 or higher semester grade point average to earn the honor.

Jonathan Meadows of Obion was recently named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Students named to the Dean’s List at UT Chatta-nooga must have made a 3.2 or higher semester grade point average to earn the honor.
