The University of Tennessee at Martin men are in eighth place at the College National Finals Rodeo after two days at the Casper (Wyo.) Events Center.
The Skyhawk women are ranked among the top 20 teams.
UT Martin cowboys John Alley and Clay Mitchell turned in a time of 6.9 in the first round of the team roping and are in third place.
Freshman Tyler Waltz turned in a 75.5-point ride in the second round of the bareback riding and was third in the round.
After two rounds of competition, Waltz is sixth in the event.
He has 148.5 points on two rides.
UT Martin’s Jordan Thrasher turned in a 5.6 time in the first round of the steer wrestling event and is 14th after the first round.
Clay Mitchell and John Alley performed Wednesday night for their third run in the team roping. Mitchell and Alley went 6.9 in the first round and did not record a time in the second round.
Additinally, Ben Walker was to perform Wednesday night in the tie down roping. Walker turned in a time of 10.0 in the second round and is tied for ninth in the average.
Alley, Jordan Thrasher and Tyler Waltz were also up Wednesday in the steer wrestling. Waltz went 6.6 in the second round and was 20th.
On the women’s side, junior Heather Moore was 14th after two runs in the barrel racing.
However, she was second in the second round with a time of 14.42.
Moore was seventh in the first round with a time of 14.58.
Chelsie McDade turned in a time of 12.5 in the second round of the breakaway and 7.3 in the first round of the goat tying event.
Abby McDuff was also up in the goat tying Monday and she recorded a time of 10.2.
Action continued on Tuesday with slack and the first nightly performance of the CNFR.
The CNFR culminates Saturdaywith the championship short round when the top 12 in each event compete for a national championship.
The National Intercol-legiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) will crown individual event champions in numerous events on Saturday evening.
National team championships are also awarded to both men’s and women’s teams.
Over 400 cowboys and cowgirls from more than 100 universities and colleges will compete in this year’s CNFR.
