NCAA board includes OVCer



Murray State University Director of Athletics Allen Ward has been appointed to the NCAA D-I Awards, Benefits, Expenses and Financial Aid Cabinet and his contract has also been extended with MSU thru 2015.
Ward, who took over as head of Racer athletics on March 30, 2005, gets a one-year extension, which means his contract now runs through June 30, 2015.
His term on the NCAA cabinet starts in September and runs four years.
The Awards, Benefits, Expenses and Financial Aid Cabinet has oversight authority in areas including, Reviewing D-I legislation relating to the principles of awards, benefits, expenses, and financial aid.
The cabinet studies issues and makes policy or legislative recommendations related to the provision of financial aid to student-athletes.
Regulations of awards, benefits, expenses relating to student-athletes (excluding NCAA championships) are also part of the cabinet’s focus.
Additionally, Morehead State Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson has been elevated to the Second Vice President of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Athletic Directors’ Association.
He is one of a total of four officers serving the group, which is a selection of athletics directors from FCS schools that help steer the NCAA’s governance of the Division I football subdivision.
He will advance to First Vice President next year and will be President of the association for the 2013 season.
Hutchinson has served on several committees during his seven-year tenure as MSU’s Director of Athletics. He just completed an appointment to the NCAA Division I Recruiting and Personnel Issues Cabinet. He has also served on the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Governance Committee, the FCS Midwest Regional Advisory Committee and the Division I Football Issues Committee. For the 2006-07 year, Hutchinson served as chair of the OVC Board of Directors of Athletics.
