Grinder records ace
at Poplar Meadows

Chip Grinder needed just one shot at Poplar Meadows Country Club’s 15th hole recently.
Grinder aced the 160-yard, par-3 hole on July 29, using an 8-iron for his hole-in-one.
Witnessing the shot were Sid Chappell and Scotty Levertt.

Hickman ladies golf
decided by one stroke

The threesome of LeAnn Gantt, Kathy Barker and Norma Kissell had a score of 1-under-par to win the weekly Hickman Country Club’s Ladies League outing on Thursday.
There was a three-way tie for second at even-par with the winners declared to be the team of Bonnie Poyner, Jacque Lethcoe, Cheryl Brundige and Dino Nerren in a scorecard playoff.
The ladies play every Thursday evening at 5:30 at the HCC. Those interested in playing are encouraged to call (270) 236-9128.

Murray St. radio man
wins OVC accolade

The Ohio Valley Conference announced Thursday that longtime Murray State sports broadcaster Neal Bradley — the “Voice of the Racers” for the past two decades — has been named the winner of the 2011 OVC Media Award, given to media who exhibit the highest commitment to covering the OVC.
Bradley, who is the play-by-play voice for Murray State football and men’s basketball, has covered Murray State and the OVC since 1991. He is also the sports director and morning show host at WNBS/WOFC.
The OVC Media Awards are determined in a nomination process and vote that included the media relations staffs at OVC member institutions as well as the Conference office.

TSSAA agrees on
punishment for two

CHATTANOOGA (AP) — Tennessee’s high school sports sanctioning body says it will accept two high schools’ self-punishments because it has no jurisdiction over football workouts.
The TSSAA letter to officials of Signal Mountain and Soddy-Daisy high schools comes in the wake of a July 16 on-field fight that involved a number of players from both schools and at least one Signal Mountain parent, according to reports.
The TSSAA willingly accepted Soddy-Daisy’s proposal that includes a one-game suspension of the head coach and requiring every player to skip practice to help move furniture at the school for one day.
