WHS grad dies in weekend car wreck

A former Westview High School student was tragically killed in a one-car accident over the weekend.
According to the fatality report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Jessica Forsythe, 18, was traveling northbound on Highway 45 East approximately two miles south of Martin Saturday when her vehicle, a 2003 GMC Envoy, left the right side of the road in making a curve.
It was then that Forsythe’s vehicle apparently struck an embankment, overturned and caught fire.
Forsythe was a member of the WHS class of 2011. Additionally, she had family members enrolled at Martin Middle School.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Forsythe family. Westview faculty and staff recall Jessica as a wonderful young person,” Weakley County Director of Schools Randy Frazier commented. “We will make additional counseling staff available as needed to students and staff at both these campuses.”
The teenager is survived by her parents, Jim and Jennifer McDurmon Forsythe of Martin; brother, Brandon Forsythe of Martin; sisters, Jacey Forsythe and Brittany Forsythe Fortner, both of Martin; paternal grandparents, James and Margaret Forsythe of Martin; maternal grandfather, Doug McDurmon of Martin and special friend Cody Nanney of Sharon. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Etta Jones McDurmon. Forsythe attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Martin. Funeral arrangements were incomplete as of press time.
The Martin Fire Department, Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, Weakley County Ambulance Service, THP and rescue squad responded to the scene.
