Cash prizes will be based on the number of teams. Other prizes include Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Straightest Drive and Putting Contest. All proceeds go to the Lady Yellowjackets basketball team. For more information or to register, call Willie Trevathan at (731) 235-2915, 235-3424 or 514-4608. Frosh RB Gardner shows skills for UTM Freshman running back Anthony Gardner from Pleasant Grove, Ala., has always made the best of his rushing attempts, averaging almost eight yards per carry in high school. His second rushing attempt of fall camp at the University of Tennessee at Martin was no exception. The 5-9 speedster broke several tackles en route to a 65-yard touchdown run in the Skyhawks second scrimmage of fall camp Saturday afternoon at Hardy M. Graham Stadium. “Anthony has some skills,’ UT Martin head football coach Jason Simpson said. “I am glad he’s back.” Gardner has missed most of fall camp with a nagging back injury. Simpson was also pleased with his team’s production. The Skyhawks will open the season Thursday, Sept. 1, at Jacksonville State. Kickoff for the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams is set for 6 p.m. Meet the Racers Day hosts 60 youngsters More than 60 kids showed up at Stewart Stadium Saturday morning to participate in the first Meet the Racers Day. Kids got a chance to participate in drills with the current Racer team and run out of the tunnel like the Racers on game day. The event concluded with an autograph session with head coach Chris Hatcher and players. The Racer cheerleaders led the group in a few cheers, while also helping to serve hot dogs and drinks. Racer I was also in attendance, posing for photos with the kids. Published in The WCP 8.23.11
