Hillcrest softballers outscore Union City Hillcrest edged Union City 13-12 in middle school softball action from Monday afternoon. Alaina Walker drove in four runs for the winners with a home run and a double. Asatin Moore had a pair of hits and two RBI, while Madison Armstrong also chased home two tallies with a hit. Now 2-0, the Lady Cougars are back in action today, at home vs. Ridgemont. Rebels, UC runner fare well at Dresden The Obion Central girls’ cross country team placed first, Union City’s Daniel Williamson won the individual portion of the meet, and the Rebel boys were third overall in an event in Dresden Monday afternoon. Medaling and scoring in the girls’ race for the Lady Rebels were Rachel Jones (23:26), Peyton Daniel (24:54), Brittney Dodd (25:44), Brenna Wilkins (25:54) and Kris Storey (26:20). Others medaling for OC were Whittney Dodd, Allison Ward, Christina Jackson, Tia Parks, Stella Preuett and Kristen Storey. Williamson won the 5K event on the boys’ side with a time of 17 minutes, 37 seconds. He will next represent the Golden Tornadoes Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Trenton Peabody. Scorers for the Central boys on Monday in Dresden included Jackson Smith, Ian Miller, Alex Terrell, Mike Klein and Coleman Dunn. Smith and Miller both medaled for the Rebels. OC girls tie Brighton in prep soccer action The Obion Central girls’ soccer team began its season Monday with a 1-1 tie vs. Brighton. Kaycee Mathenia scored late in the second half for the Lady Rebels, fed a great assist from Brooke Jennings. Taylor Baker was lauded for her work in goal by OC coach Daniel Johnston after she recorded 13 saves. The Rebel skipper, too, praised the play of his defensive backs. Obion Central will play again on Thursday at Crockett County, match time 5 o’clock. Red Devilette score doubles Lake Road South Fulton improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 12-6 middle school softball triumph over Lake Road on Monday. Aalia Bivens went 4-for-4 to pace a 15-hit attack for the victors. Cassidy Ruddle had three hits in four at-bats, while both Katie Watkins and Emma Glisson each collected two hits for SF. The Devilettes were aided by six LR errors. Aeriel Wright was the winning pitcher, fanning eight and walking four with four earned runs allowed. Lake Road did not report its statistics from the game. South Fulton is back in action Thursday, hosting Union City. SF soccer opener a loss to McKenzie South Fulton dropped its season-opening girls’ soccer match on Monday afternoon, falling 2-1 at McKenzie. The Red Devilettes scored first on a goal by Kayla Lindsey in the first half. McKenzie’s two goals came later in the first half. SF visits Covington today, beginning at 5:30.
