Lake Road softball
splits opening pair
The Lake Road softball team has split its first two softball games of the fall season.
The Lady Generals won their first game at their new homefield, beating Black Oak 19-0 in three innings.
Robin Lewis smacked a three-run homer and had four RBIs, while Lynsey Berner and Hannah Cavness contributed two hits apiece. Lewis and Jenna Smith combined to pitch a nine-up, nine-down perfect game.
In a 12-6 loss to South Fulton earlier this week, Berner and Lewis both went 3-for-4, while Cavness had two hits, including a home run, and Kim Lynch drove in pair of runs with two base knocks.
Lake Road hosts Union City on Monday.
8-under enough
for ‘Pop’ winners
Poplar Meadows Coun-try Club had its weekly scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 8-under par.
The winning team included Rodger Tanner, Bedford Dunavant, Darrin Parks, Wynn Burnett and Kyle Alexander.
Finishing in second at 7-under par was the team of Mike Calfee, Brian Ferguson, Steve Conley, Mike Revell and Phillip White.
The scramble, which is held each Wednesday, is $10 for members and $15 for non-members and includes dinner.
Participants are asked to call 885-3650 by 3 p.m. each Wednesday to sign up.
Bowling league
will meet tonight
There will be an organizational meeting for the Thursday Night Mixed Bowling League tonight at 7 at Southlane Bowling in Union City.
Anyone interested in bowling in the league should attend the meeting, according to league organizers.

Wingfoot winning trio
combines for 3-under
The team of Beth and Sydney Easterwood and Jackie Russell combined to shoot 3-under-par and win the weekly ladies league outing at Wingfoot Golf Course on Tuesday.
Beth Easterwood was the closest to the pin.
Wingfoot Golf Course is hosting a weekly ladies league outing every Tuesday.

Speaker list impressive
for basketball clinic
The Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee will host several high profile speakers at its coaching clinic Sept. 23-24 in Nashville.
Among the coaches on the speakers’ list are: Brad Steven of Butler, Cuonzo Martin of Tennessee, Rick Byrd of Belmont, Don Meyer, Kentucky women’s coach Matt Mitchell and Morehead State women’s coach Tom Hodges.
Other speakers will be announced later. The clinic will also serve as a TSSAA rules meeting.
Walk-on tryouts set
for UTM softball team
The UT Martin softball team will hold walk-on tryouts for currently enrolled full-time female students 3 p.m. Sept. 2, at Bettye Giles Field.
All interested participants must have had a full physical before trying out for the team with written paperwork in hand.
