SF Booster Club
sets meeting date
The South Fulton Athletic Booster Club will meet in the school library Tuesday night, the meeting set for 7:30 p.m. or immediately following the girls’ home soccer match.
Coaches’ reports, a membership campaign report and a report on the Obion County Fair concession booth, as well as normal club business, will be discussed.
All parents, booster club members, prospective members and supporters of SF high school and middle school athletes are urged to attend, according to a club spokesman.
Vols’ coach Martin
happy with decision
KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin says he’s glad the NCAA investigation into Volunteers’ athletics has ended and that it came with no postseason ban for his team.
The NCAA was investigating the Vol men’s basketball program for recruiting violations committed under previous coach Bruce Pearl, who was fired in March.
Martin said Friday he received a lot of questions about possible sanctions from the parents and coaches of recruits this summer and would tell them he did not know what would happen.
The NCAA did not punish Tennessee beyond what the penalties self-imposed by the program, which include two years’ probation and some limits on recruiting.
The NCAA hit Pearl with a three-year show-cause penalty and his assistants with one year each, which will make it nearly impossible for another school to hire them during that time.
