UCHS successful
in frosh opener

Union City’s freshman football team won its first game of the season Thursday night with a 26-6 triumph over Gibson County.
Alex Reid rushed for two touchdowns for the Tornado frosh, while Channing Green ran for a score and caught a pass from Garrett Walton for a second TD.
Walton completed two of his three pass attempts.
UC’s next game will be at Dyersburg Sept. 22.

Jennings’ trio
all OC needed

Obion Central edged Trenton 3-1 Thursday in a prep soccer game reported way past Messenger deadlines for reporting.
Brooke Jennings’ hat trick accounted for all of the Lady Rebels’ scoring.
Taylor Baker recorded one save for the winners.
OC (3-3-1) plays at Covington Tuesday.

Military to be honored
at UTM football game

UT Martin will hold  Military Appreciation Night at the Skyhawks’ home football game Thursday.
UTM will host Union College. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at Graham Stadium.
All military personnel and their families will be admitted free.
Military personnel must present proper identification or be in uniform.
 
Racers’ RB Harris
among top players

Murray State running back Mike Harris was lauded as an adidas OVC Football Players of the Week.
Harris rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns as the Racers defeated Mississippi Valley State 39-0.
