The annual 4-H Public Speaking Contest will be taking place in schools across Obion County this month. 4-H’ers will be invited to compete in the 4-H County Public Speaking Contest — to be held on Dec. 6 — based on their performance at the class level. By building a great speech, students have the opportunity to build self-esteem and other social skills they will use throughout their entire lives. All fourth through eighth grade students are invited to participate in the contest. South Fulton seventh- and eighth-graders kicked off this month’s event today. Other clubs which will participate include: Wednesday — Black Oak, seventh grade; Friday — Hillcrest, seventh and eighth grades; Monday — Lake Road, seventh and eighth grades; Nov. 8 — Lake Road, fourth and fifth grades; Nov. 9 — Lake Road, sixth grade; Nov. 10 — Hillcrest, fourth through sixth grades; Nov. 11 — Black Oak, fourth through sixth grades; Nov. 14 — Ridgemont, eighth grade; Nov. 15 — Ridgemont, seventh grade; Nov. 16 — Ridgemont, fourth grade; Nov. 17 — South Fulton, sixth grade; Nov. 17 — Union City Afterschool, all grades; Nov. 18 — South Fulton, fourth and fifth grades; Nov. 29 — Ridgemont, sixth grade; and Nov. 30 — Ridgemont fifth grade.
