Dresden sets courses
for holiday travel

Both Dresden basketball teams will participate in holiday events later this week, traveling north and south for games.
The Lion boys will play at Calloway County High School in Murray on Thursday and Friday, opening play 1:30 p.m. Thursday against Fulton County.
A win there would bring Dresden back at 8:15 p.m. for a winners’ bracket game, while a loss would mean the Lions would play twice on Friday.
The Lady Lions, meanwhile, will play once in Huntingdon, facing Houston County at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Point Guard Coca-Cola Christmas Classic.

UTM equestrians
sign Ohio rider

Ashley Thompson, the Western coach for UT Martin equestrian team, announced that McKenzie Perry has signed a National Letter of Intent to ride for the Skyhawks beginning in the 2012 fall semester.
Perry attends Glanville (Ohio) High School and is set to graduate June, 3, 2012, She is currently showing on the American Quarter Horse Association circuit with trainers Dan and Darlene Trein from Seville, Ohio.
Perry’s accomplishments include a top 10 finish at the 2010 All American Quarter Horse Congress in NY 14-18 Hunt Seat Equitation; 2010 first place Hunt Seat Equitation Year End Award in Ohio Quarter Horse Association; 2010 Reserve 14-18 All-around year-end award in the Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association; 2010 AQHA Youth Champion Award; 2010 AQHA Youth Performance ROM with points in Horsemanship, Hunt Seat Equitation and hunter under saddle; and in 2011, several class wins in AQHA Western Horsemanship and Trail.
She has shown for the OQHA in the National Youth Activities Team Tournament (NYATT) and at the AQHA Youth World Show.
“I chose UT Martin because I enjoyed the fact that is is a small school with a great student/teacher ratio,” Perry said. “I like that I will be able to get individual attention, and I love the feel of the equestrian team environment.”

OVC baseball pair
named All-American

Two Ohio Valley Conference baseball players have been named to the Louisville Slugger preseason All-America team as selected by Collegiate Baseball News.
Southeast Missouri State senior third baseman Trenton Moses and Jacksonville State senior closer Todd Hornsby were each third-team selections to the team.
Moses, the 2011 OVC Player of the Year, hit .395 in 2011 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI. He added 70 hits, 44 runs, 14 doubles and slugged .672 with an on-base percentage of .502 in 54 games during last season’s campaign. He ranked second in the OVC in average, on-base percentage (14th nationally) and slugging percentage. Moses led the Redhawks to a 34-22 overall record, which ranks third most in school history.
Hornsby was a first-team All-OVC selection after a record-breaking junior season that saw him set JSU’s and the Ohio Valley Conference’s single-season record for saves with 15.
