UTM’s Myles again top frosh in OVC For the third straight week and fourth time overall in the 2011-12 season, the University of Tennessee at Martin’s Myles Taylor was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week. With this award, Taylor has been tabbed as the league’s top freshman in four out of the first seven weeks of the season (Nov. 21, Dec. 12, Dec. 19, Dec. 26). The freshman phenom has come on strong over the last four games, pouring in 20.5 points per game in that stretch. Overall, he has reached double-figures in nine games and five straight heading into UT Martin’s next game at Tennessee State on Thursday. The last time out, Taylor tied a career-high with 22 points against No. 22 Murray State in the Skyhawks’ OVC opener on Dec. 21. He is the only Skyhawk to have started in all 14 games and ranks second on the squad in scoring (12.2) and rebounding (4.8). Elswick’s digs total heads NCAA list In a season in which she rewrote several UT Martin and Ohio Valley Conference records, junior libero Kasey Elswick etched her name into the national record book in 2011 as she is the new recordholder for single-season digs in NCAA history. Elswick’s 852 digs shattered the previous benchmark in the 25-point scoring format/unlimited libero substitutions era, which was held by Lara Newberry of Chattanooga (777). All stats were compiled by the NCAA after the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament on Dec. 17. Elswick will be officially recognized when the NCAA releases its 2012 records book next summer.
