UCMS girls’ season
ends in overtime

The Union City Middle School girls saw their season come to a heartbreaking close with a 40-39 overtime loss to Lake County in the semifinals of the West Tennessee Athletic Conference Tournament at Northview Thursday night.
The Lady Twisters rallied from five points down with 26 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra session when Chante DeBerry made a 3-pointer and Japril Hegler sank a deuce.
Chynia Hyde had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead UC, while Hegler finished with 10 points. Caroline Chism was again a terror on the glass with a game-high 17 rebounds, while both Tykesha Vaughn and DeBerry had eight markers apiece.
Hyde and Vaughn — both seventh-graders — were selected to the all-conference team, based on their regular season performances.

TSWA honors Tech
with football awards

Tennessee Tech swept the college football honors from the Tennessee Sportswriters Association with wide receiver Tim Benford earning the TSWA College Football Player of the Year, while Tennessee Tech head coach Watson Brown was named the TSWA Coach of the Year.
The awards were based upon votes by TSWA members.
Tennessee Tech finished the regular season 7-3 and 6-2 in the OVC, earning a share of the conference title.
In a tight race for Player of the Year, Benford received one more vote than Vanderbilt running back Zac Stacy.
Benford finished with 65 catches for 923 yards and five touchdowns and was named the OVC Player of the Year.

Sign-up dates set
for OCLL season

Signups for the upcoming Obion County Little League season will be held both Tuesday and Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m.
Registration fee is $20 per child.
Those youths at Hillcrest School will sign up at Troy First Baptist Church, while youngsters from Lake Road School will register at the Woodland Mills Civic Center.
Youths ages 4-12 are eligible to play.

SF Booster Club
schedules meeting

The South Fulton Athletic Booster Club will meet 6 p.m. Monday in the school library.
Anyone interested in supporting SFHS and middle school athletics is urged to attend, according to a club spokesman.
