Nearly four years after 31-year-old Jamie Gruggett of Greenfield was dead by strangulation in Muse Park in Jackson, a Jackson man has pleaded guilty to the crime.
Walter Stitts, 49, of Jackson pleaded guilty Monday to two murders, according to an Associated Press report. The other murder reportedly took place in 1998 when 71-year-old Cornelius Martinez of Cedar Grove was found strangled to death in the trunk of his car and apparently robbed.
Stitts is currently serving a prison term for theft and robbery convictions. He was sentenced to life in prison Monday with a possibility of parole at age 100.
