too much for Ripley
Ripley wasn’t much of a match for Adam Reinhart, much less the entire Westview team.
Reinhart scored five goals as the Chargers blanked Ripley 9-0 in boys’ soccer action this week.
Abraham Haddad, Cameron Cates, Cal Bradshaw and Dominic Fabianich all scored a goal each.
Scout Edwards, meanwhile, had five saves for Westview.
The Chargers improve to 3-1-1.
UTM’s Sleigh lauded
as OVC’s top golfer
Graham Sleigh, a senior at the University of Tennessee at Martin, was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Male Golfer of the Week for his effort in the 16th annual Arkansas State Red Wolf Intercollegiate.
Sleigh tied for first in a field of 121 players at three-round tournament played earlier this week at RidgePoint Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
The Clarksville native carded rounds of 73-70-66 to finish at 209 (-4) and tie with two other golfers. His third-round, 5-under par 66 put him in a playoff with three other golfers, one from Arkansas State and two from Vanderbilt.
The UT Martin golfers return to action Monday and Tuesday in the Grub Mart Classic hosted by Jacksonville State.
SIU-E hoops earn
Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville is the recipient of the 2011-12 Team Sportsmanship Award for both men’s and women’s basketball in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Voted on by the student-athletes and coaches of the respective sports, the team awards are given to the squads deemed to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA.
Included in the areas for evaluation are the conduct of student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators and fans.
The 2011-12 school year marks the seventh year the team sportsmanship honors have been awarded.
This marks the first award for the either SIU-E basketball program and the second year in a row (and third overall) that a school has swept the awards.
The SIUE men finished their first season of league competition with a 6-10 record in OVC play.
In their first full season of OVC play, the SIU-E women finished third in the standings with a 12-4 overall record.
The team hosted a game in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) following the season and capped the year with 18 total victories.
