Lindsay Frilling of the Obion County Joint Economic Development Council was among the 37 participants who participated in the recent Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course. The economic development course was hosted by the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services. The TBEDC is designed for those who participate in economic development. The three and a half-day course is accredited by the International Economic Development Council and the American Planning Association. Attendees learned best practices in economic and community development, new methods to promote job growth and discussed emerging trends shaping economic development. “It is our goal to continue to build upon the TBEDC and establish the best national basic economic development course and statewide economic development program in the US,” said Dr. Andre Temple, an economic development specialist and the course director. “I found the course to be enlightening in several areas, from entrepreneurship to taxes and incentives to workforce development. It is important to learn best practices as well as network with peers because economic development is a relationship business. We must show up to win,” Mrs. Frilling said.
