UT Martin bass team posts solid showing The University of Tennessee at Martin’s bass anglers team completed its best tournament this year, finishing sixth out of 43 teams at the Boat U.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Pepsi Open, June 23-24, at Kentucky Lake near Paris. The UT Martin team tallied a two-day total of 34.06 pounds, just behind UT Chattanooga’s team that weighed in with 34.57 pounds. The University of North Carolina-Charlotte won the tournament with a final weigh-in of 41.07 pounds. The tournament format included teams of up to two boats. Each boat’s best-three fish were combined daily and totaled for a two-day score. One-boat teams combined the top-three fish from the front and back angler. UTM team members Grayson Smith (Clarksville) and Dylan Powley (Paris) contributed to the strong finish by landing some of their largest tournament fish this year. Other UT Martin team members participating were Jason McGee (Big Rock), Alex Derry (Bradford), Eric Davidson (Greenfield) and Ryan Lackey (Parsons). Streaking Railroaders continue win streak A sixth consecutive win has the Fulton Railroaders at the break-even mark through 22 games in the Ohio Valley Baseball League standings. Fulton beat Madison-ville 6-1 Thursday night and is now 11-11 and in sole possession of third place — 31⁄2 games behind league-leading Hopkinsville. Andrew Cash and Joe Mike drove in two runs apiece for the Railroaders against Madisonville, and Rob Hogenkamp, Rick Linton and Eric Manning all had two hits each to contribute to the winning cause. The loss stopped Madisonville’s three-game victory run. Fulton will play host to Madisonville tonight at 7:05, then travels to Marion on Saturday night. Published in The Messenger 6.29.12
