Soul Food Café set Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City will be hosting Soul Food Café Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The menu includes spaghetti, green beans, salad, breads and desserts. The spotlight for August is Bingo. As always, the meal is free and everyone is welcome.
Church to host benefit Hornbeak Baptist Church, located at 207 Short St. in Hornbeak, will host a meal and auction Saturday night to benefit Debbie (Hopper) Jordan, who recently underwent a liver transplant. The meal will start at 5 p.m. and will include a hamburger or hot dog, chips, slaw, a drink and dessert. The auction will follow at 6. The recommended donation for the meal is $5 or more. A spokesman said everyone is invited.
Women’s Ministry set New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Union City will host Triumphant Women’s Ministry Conference Aug. 9-12. “Positioned, Prepared and Poised for God’s Purpose: Learning from Esther’s Story” is the theme. The conference begins Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. The speaker will be Gloria McLendon of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Tiptonville. Esther’s Feast will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 10. The speaker will be Cynthia Webb of Brooks Chapel Ministries in Fulton. The conference will continue Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m. with Morning Manna. The speaker will be minister Inger Roberson of Mount Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church in New Madrid, Mo. The conference will wrap up at 11 a.m. Aug. 12, with speaker Licentiate Kimberly Abram Bryant of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Registration fee is $15 per person or $7.50 per person for feast tickets. The registration deadline is Tuesday. Revival scheduled Mount Zion United Methodist Church, located 5576 Mount Zion Road in Union City, will have its revival, “Words Written in Red,” Sunday through Wednesday. The nightly services will take place at 7. A potluck will be held Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow services Monday and Tuesday and an ice cream social will be held Wednesday. Special music will be held nightly, along with performances from the Mount Zion choir. A nursery will be provided each night. Speakers for the revival will be: Dr. Cynthia Hopson on Sunday, the Rev. Don Williams on Monday, Anita Hayslett, CLM, on Tuesday, and the Rev. Cathy Barnett on Wednesday. For more information, call 885-1555.
Church picnic schedule Right Path Ministries, located at 1215 Nailling Drive in Union City, will have its annual church picnic in Union City’s Graham Park Saturday at 10 a.m. “Let’s all participate and have a good time in the name of the Lord,” a spokesman said. The picnic will be rescheduled if it rains.
Mt. Olive news told Mount Olive Baptist Church, located west of Union City, will have its Vacation Bible School Friday from 6-8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Magical Mink’s Inflat-ables and a cookout will be provided on Saturday. To get to the church, take Highway 22 West, turn on the first right past Preuett’s Quik Mart and continue down Crystal Road about two miles. It will be on the left. All area children are invited, a spokesman said. The church will also have a Family and Friends Day Sunday. Early fellowship starts at 9:30 a.m., with donuts, orange juice and coffee being served. Sunday school begins at 10 and worship starts at 11. A lunch will follow the worship service. Dustin Hamlin will be a guest soloist. The Rev. Steve Carr, pastor, will be the speaker. Everyone is invited to join the special day, a spokesman said.
