The Sons of Confederate Veterans local camp 176 will meet Sunday at 2 p.m. at Obion County Museum on Edwards Street in Union City. All members are urged to attend, a spokesman said.
Lt. Commander John Abernathy will present this month’s program. He will be offering facts about one of this area’s worst atrocities, the slaughter of the Beckham family near Island No. 10. Members of the family are buried in Union City. There will also be a report on the recent SCV national reunion Murfreesboro and a discussion about the possibility of hosting a library display for Scenic Tennessee.
The SCV works in conjunction with other historical groups to preserve Confederate history. It is not affiliated with any other group. The SCV rejects any group whose actions tarnish or distort the image of the Confederate soldier or his reasons for fighting.
For more information, visit the camp website at scvcamp176.org. Several new audio and video additions are to be found there, a spokesman said.
