Candidates interview for UT Martin post

Interviews are slated to begin today with four candidates for the vice chancellor for academic affairs post at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The interview process will include meetings with faculty, staff and students and an open forum. The search advisory committee is chaired by Dr. Jim Byford, UT Martin College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences dean. Finalists will be recommended to Dr. Tom Rakes, UT Martin chancellor, for consideration. “The search advisory committee has done an excellent job in its global search,” Byford said. “I think we have four candidates with the credentials and experience that merit a closer look during an extensive interview process. I feel confident we will find a successful candidate in this pool.” The candidates include: • Dr. Richard A. Beck, associate vice president for academic and student affairs, Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas, July 2001-present; • Dr. Donna L. Burgraff, dean, College of Business, Education and Professional Studies, Southwest Minnesota State Uni-versity, Marshall, Minn., 2005-present; • Dr. E. Jerald Ogg Jr., interim vice chancellor for academic affairs, University of Tennessee at Martin, 2007-present; and • Dr. W. Harold Ornes, dean, College of Science, Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah, July 1999-present. The interview schedule is as follows: Ogg, Monday and Tuesday; Burgraff, Tuesday and Wednesday; Ornes, Wednesday and Thursday; and Beck, Thursday and Friday. Other members of the search advisory committee include Brandy Cartmell, director of academic records and registrar; Cynthia West, Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice interim chair; Dr. Darrell Ray, associate professor of biology; Doug Cook, Department of Visual and Theatre Arts chair; Grayson Uldrich, Student Government Association vice president; Dr. John Overby, Department of Management, Marketing and Political Science chair; Dr. Kathy Evans, associate professor of education; Keith Carver, assistant vice chancellor for development; Dr. Nancy Warren, Department of Nursing chair; Phil Bright, Office of Human Resources director; Sam S. Richardson, assistant professor of library science; and Shannon Burgin, assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs.
