Briefly Jr. Red Devils open by routing Gleason South Fulton opened its middle school football season Tuesday night with a resounding 38-8 victory over Gleason. Jyriq Jones scored two touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions for the Red Devils, while Kody Davidson ran for two TDs and added a two-point play. Jones hit paydirt on scampers of 2 and 58 yards, while Davidson found the endzone on dashes of 39 and 30 yards. Zaccius Mays opened the SF scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run. Branden Walker accounted for the Devils’ other conversion. Jones finished with 133 yards on just eight carries, while Davidson totaled 78 on seven tries. Mays chipped in with 84 yards rushing The Redmen play again, Saturday night, at Murray. Stone starts strong with low girls’ score Mollie Stone is off to good start in 2012. The Union City senior — twice a state tournament participant — topped the girls’ portion of Tuesday’s prep golf match vs. Obion Central and Westview with a 38, winning the individual competition by 12 strokes. Ashlyn Runions of Obion Central shot a 50 to finish second, while Lady Rebel teammate Samantha Wallace was third with a 53. Cailee Sinclair shot a 56 for UC. Westview had the top boys’ team, led by the top two boys’ players. Houston Haag and Barrett Belote each fired a 39 to lead the Chargers to a win in the three-way match with a team total of 174. OC was next at 182, and UC finished at 217. Ryan Middlebrook led the local entrants with a 43, Corbin Hagen fired a 45, and both Cameron Green and Clayton Hagen shot 47 for the Rebels. Cruz Kepner topped the Golden Tornadoes with a 46, while Clay Treece finished at 49, Devin King totaled 52 and Kizer Harris shot a 62. ‘Pop’ sets dates for annual scramble Poplar Meadows Country Club will be hosting its annual two-man scramble Aug. 25-26. The entry fee, which is $160 per team, includes two days of golf, a steak dinner, range balls, a mulligan and closest to the hole prizes. Based on a full field of 66 teams, there will be four flights with cash prizes guaranteed in each flight of $650 for first place, $450 for second place, $250 for third place and $150 for fourth place. There will be a shotgun start each day at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. For more information, contact Tiger Haag at 885-3650. Wynridge winners post 3-under total Charlotte Hall, Cathy Hall and Sandra Cobb easily posted the top score in the weekly Wynridge Ladies Scramble on Tuesday. The threesome posted a 3-under score. Taking second with a 1-over was the trio of Janice Hanna, Jackie Russell and Beverly Yates. The ladies play every Tuesday evening at the Troy course.
