Taxpayers upset and have reason
To The Editor: After reading the Wednesday edition of The Messenger, it is apparent that a lot of taxpayers are upset with the county commission. Will Rogers said the only bad thing about a joke is that some get elected. Letting some people get in charge of public money is like putting Dracula in charge of the blood bank. If I read the proposed budget right, all projected expenditures exceed projected revenues. I was raised thinking that you can’t put a square peg in a round hole; maybe I missed something. A lot of socialist pundits have expressed their views in the past and I would like to buy them a one-way ticket to North Korea so they can experience it first hand. All nations saw what defeated Hitler; he ran out of fossil fuel, his supply was cut off. If China or another socialist nation takes us over, the people in public housing, prisons, politics and other non-essential status will be converted to bio-fuel, they have a subtle way of cleaning house, just ask any GI that fought in Korea. On the plus side, it would cure the fuel shortage problem and Mad Cow Disease. In case of war, everything is utilized and people will look for succor, but none will come. I may volunteer my old carcass be converted to bio-diesel so I can help power Willie Nelson’s tour bus down the interstates. I can think of no higher honor for a southerner like me. Ralph F. Fair drawing change wrong
To The Editor: My wife and I attended the fair Friday and Saturday. We enjoyed our time there. My wife had not been to the fair in a few years. Last year was the first time I had never attended the fair. The fair is something we Obion Countians should be proud of. Not all counties have a fair. This year, the Obion County Fair did something it had never done before and that is making only people who purchased season tickets, eligible for the nightly drawing. I am sorry, but that’s just plain wrong. I have been unemployed for 13 months, along with a lot of other Obion Countians. A cash prize of $1,000 or more would help a family that has been hit by recent unemployment, or any other hardship, very much. Is our money and time at the fair not as important as someone who has the money and time to purchase a season ticket? The fair board should be ashamed of themselves for ever starting this. I called the fair office on Monday, Aug. 13, and voiced my opinion, but I probably talked with the secretary. I also sent an email voicing my opinions, but have received no reply back. Everyone who purchases a ticket to the fair should be eligible for the nightly drawing as in years past. If you feel the same as I do, call the fair office and ask that everyone be included again.
