’Jacket golfer, WV
top prep 3-way event

Greenfield’s Tony Robinson was the top golfer, and Westview was the top boys’ team in prep golf action at Persimmon Hills in Sharon on Thursday.
Robinson shot a 39, one stroke better than both Houston Haag and Barrett Belote of Westview.
Jordan Long shot a 45, and Conner Simpson finished at 51 to give the Chargers a low round of 176.
McCall Scates shot a 55 as Greenfield topped Huntingdon in girls’ play, 115-117.

Dresden’s Hatler
helps Bethel squad

The Bethel women’s cross country team will depend upon three sophomores and three freshmen, including one runner from Dresden, for success in the 2012 season.
Former Lady Lions’ runner Sarah Hatler joins Kris Storey from Obion Central and Lisa Mitchell as the freshmen runners.
Deanna Irvin, Erin Swindle and Reniesha Wallace are the sophomores for Bethel.
Bethel will call upon the youth to replace  seniors Emily LaForce, Mitzie Murphree, Jenn-ifer Chepkemboi and junior Cassie Hassell.

UTM golf outing
off until spring

The UT Martin golf team has postponed its annual fund-raising golf tournament, which was scheduled to take place Friday at Persimmon Hills Golf Course in Sharon.
Jerry Carpenter, the head golf coach at UT Martin, said he would try to reschedule the event for the spring.

Bethel softball
sets up tryouts

Bethel softball head coach Larry Geraldi and his staff will conduct an open tryout for high school juniors and seniors Sept. 8.
Participants need to bring their softball gear, sign a release form and contact Geraldi by email, text or phone (geraldil@bethelu.edu / 931-264-0030).
The registration for the tryout will start at 12:30 p.m. and the tryout will start at 1 p.m.
Prospects and their families wanting a tour or visit should contact Geraldi.
