Gleason, Lions rule all junior high fields

Gleason Middle School’s Ryan Cole was a one-man show Thursday night against West Carroll in Gleason’s 46-28 win at home. Dresden was also a big winner in football with a 36-0 win at Henry County. In softball action, it was Dresden picking up a pair of wins against Bruceton and Harrelson. The following is a report on all Weakley County junior high action reported to The Press. FOOTBALL Gleason 46, WC 28 Ryan Cole gave the Bulldogs a spark, a big spark with a great performance Thursday night. The eighth grade running back lit up the scoreboard with six touchdowns and over 350 yards rushing. One of his touchdowns came on a 99-yard sprint in the third quarter. He also had a touchdown run of over 50 yards on a reverse handoff. Head coach, Noah Lampkins said his young running back had multiple runs of 30 and 40 yards. “He took one 99 yards and you cannot run one any further than that,” Lampkins said. “He did a great job for us.” Lampkins said Donavan Foley played a good game on offensive and gave a lot of credit to his entire offensive line with the run blocking. Gleason will play at against its cross-county rivals Thursday at Greenfield. Dresden 36, HC 0 Dresden took a slim, 6-0 first quarter lead into the second quarter and erupted for 24 points. The Lions continued to build on their lead by scoring six in the third. Dresden in now 3-0 on the season and will play Hillcrest at home on Thursday. SOFTBALL Dresden wins pair Millie Bryant, Charley Woodward and Rylee Bell each had hits in the Lady Lions 10-3 victory on Tuesday. Bryant led the team with three runs driven in. Olivia Reagan and Mary Grace Davis each drove in a run in the Lady Lions 10-run onslaught. Woodard picked up the win, allowing only one hit and striking out three. The Lady Lions scoring outburst continued on Thursday during a makeup game against Harrelson Middle School with a 15-0 win. Dresden only had a pair of hits, but used several Harrelson’s miscues and walks to down the Lady Hawks. Dresden will play host to Henry County this afternoon at 4:30. Published in The WCP 9.4.12
