MURRAY, Ky. (AP) — A barn that had served as a landmark in Murray for a century before being destroyed by fire in September has been rebuilt.
Jackie and Clarkie Butterworth told the Murray Ledger & Times last month that they weren’t aware of how popular their drive-thru tobacco barn on Kentucky 94 west of Murray had become until the fire.
The barn was used as a landmark by locals so they could tell they were about three miles from Murray. It also was the first entry to the Calloway County Quilt Trail.
Jackie Butterworth said he debated immediately after the blaze about whether to rebuild the structure. “Then we started hearing how much this barn meant to people and it became easier to make that decision, and it is different (with the drive-thru feature). You don’t see that every day. It was a pretty big conversation piece.”
