BOOK DONATED — In an effort to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism, the Reelfoot Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recently donated a book to Black Oak Elementary School’s library and its fifth graders. The donated book is titled “Independent Dames: What You Never Knew About the Women and Girls of the American Revolution.” It was researched and written by Laurie Halse Anderson and illustrated by Matt Faulkner. The book is entertaining, informative and pays long overdue homage to those independent women who played important roles in the outcome of the American Revolution, a spokesman said. Among those accepting the book recently were (front, from left) Heather Morgan, Parker Ferguson, Abby Midkiff, (back) librarian Barbara Sellers, Eric Ainsworth, Ty Rivers and Zachary Chiarello.
