JACKSON (AP) — Union University officials said the school’s campus in Jackson was closed until today due to an outbreak of stomach illness. University spokesman Tim Ellsworth said about 300 students reported suffering a stomach sickness. Ellsworth said most of the ill students came from the university’s residential population of 1,100. A statement posted on the university’s website said all classes at the Jackson campus, including undergraduate and graduate classes, were canceled starting at noon Monday and all day Tuesday. The library and wellness center were also closed. University President David S. Dockery said the goal was to limit further spread of the illness and address health concerns of the students. Classes were scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. today. Ellsworth said the campus has a total of about 3,000 students.
