Over 350 students from eight high schools, along with 14 teachers and numerous community volunteers, gathered once again recently at the Dyersburg campus of Dyersburg State Community College for the 18th annual Spanish Feria.
Obion County Central and Fulton high schools were among the participants.
During the Feria, students tested their Spanish language skills and cultural knowledge in 18 different areas.
Judging categories included arts and crafts, preparation of traditional Spanish dishes, poetry reading and skits. There were also vocabulary and writing challenges. Displays gave students a taste of Hispanic culture.
Munford High School was the Feria’s overall Grand Premio Winner. In addition to OCCHS and Fulton, representatives from Covington High School, Crockett County High School, Lake County High School, Peabody High School and Dyer County High School all took part in the day-long event.
The Spanish Feria is one of the many outreach programs which Dyersburg State regularly sponsors as part of its broad mission to increase access to higher education in the area.
